At Solara Systems Inc., we take pride in delivering innovative wireless solutions that enhance safety and connectivity in critical environments. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of a major Distributed Antenna System (DAS) upgrade at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, in partnership with Engineering Wireless Services (EWS). This project modernized the Life Safety DAS, ensuring robust wireless coverage for public safety bands, including VHF, UHF, and 700/800 MHz frequencies, to protect veterans, staff, and visitors.
A Milestone for Public Safety
The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center is a vital hub for veteran healthcare, where reliable communication is essential for emergency responders. The upgraded DAS meets stringent standards, including UL 2524 for fire and shock safety, providing enhanced signal strength, reliable battery backup during outages, and seamless integration with fire alarm systems. Partnering with EWS, Solara Systems Inc. delivered an efficient system with minimal disruption to the facility’s operations, reinforcing our commitment to excellence.
Scope of Work
The project involves a comprehensive replacement of key DAS components, utilizing advanced ADX V series equipment from ADRF (Advanced RF Technologies).
These components are built for durability, featuring NEMA 4X enclosures to withstand challenging conditions and ensure long-term reliability.
All head-end components were replaced at the existing DAS head-end location in DP-111. Remote units for both UHF and 700/800 MHz bands were upgraded across multiple Telecom Room (TR) closets throughout the facility:
The system integrates with the existing fiber and RF infrastructure for maximum efficiency and compatibility.
Project Execution
Decommissioning: Old head-end components, remotes, and UPS units were safely removed and disposed of.
Integration and Testing: New remotes were connected to local fire alarm control panels, with alarming functionality thoroughly tested. Comprehensive testing, commissioning, and RF validation confirmed the system’s optimal performance.
Design Validation and Expertise
EWS’s RF Design Engineers, with credentials such as iBwave Levels I-III, Ranplan, EMF, and GROL licenses, brought unparalleled expertise to the project. Their skills in coverage prediction, site selection, benchmark data collection, and post-processing with tools like Solutelia ensured a robust system design. EWS’s partnerships with major wireless carriers and industry leaders like American Tower, Boingo, Crown Castle, and Mobilitie further underscore their capability. The project concluded with validated designs and updated as-built files, tailored to the VA Medical Center’s unique needs.
A Lasting Impact
The completed DAS upgrade at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center represents a significant achievement in enhancing safety and connectivity. At Solara Systems Inc., we’re proud to have partnered with EWS to deliver a cutting-edge system that supports reliable emergency communications. We remain committed to delivering innovative wireless solutions for critical environments.
